Overview

Currently mining relay bar extensions are manufactured from steel, which provides the strength necessary, but at a penalty of high weight and the associated difficulties that brings. By using our design experience with high performance composite structures, we have developed a carbon fibre relay bar extension which meets all of the strength requirements, while weighing less than half of what the current steel solution does.

Carbon Fibre

With the use of carbon fibre we are able to take advantage of the materials’ very high specific strength and stiffness to develop an ideal solution for a relay bar extension. Carbon Fibre exhibits excellent performance in fatigue and has very high corrosion resistance, extending the service life of the relay bar extensions. Owing to the manufacturing process and standards used there is low variability from product to product, eliminating problems which can be associated with steel fabrication. Weight Reduction

The current steel relay bar extensions weigh upwards of 90kg, compared to the new carbon fibre solution which weighs 41kg (1), representing a weight saving of over 50%. This weight reduction will greatly reduce the time to install and remove the extensions as needed and will reduce the risk of injury as a result of this operation.
